My client has been appointed to act as Client’s Representative for a 10 building, multi-storey, office and hotel project which will be designed and constructed under the terms of a recently developed Partnering Contract. The Partners, all companies of international standing, include the Client, the Constructor, the Lead Designer, the Cost Consultant.
The Design Manager coordinates, tracks and reports on the multi-disciplined design of the partnering teams, ensuring all the client’s requirements are implemented. The partnering teams are imminently to be co-located in a purpose-built office adjacent to the site, working on the design phase of the project. Enabling Construction Works will begin in early January 2009 and it is envisaged that the total site workforce will eventually number in excess of 6,000 workers.
Besides coordinating and tracking the design activities, the Design Manager, under the supervision of the Project Director, also directs and supports the individual engineering personnel.
With the multi-faceted type of operation outlined above, the Design Manager needs to be an experienced professional, degree qualified, who has extensive experience in both design and construction processes. As part of the Client’s Representative’s team, he chairs design coordination meetings, advises the Client via reports and recommendations, on design, technical proposals, drawings, specifications, materials, equipment etc. Additionally, the Design Manager takes instruction and directives from the Client and disseminates the information internally and to the partnering team members in a timely manner in order to deliver a project with tight deadlines and expectations.
The day-to-day operations require an articulate and accomplished person with a positive attitude, confidence and the capability of effectively communicating with all staff.
