CLIENT - designs, manufactures, and delivers innovative and essential equipment and solutions (steel tower structures/foundations) for the global communications infrastructure market. The group serves operators and original equipment manufacturers from facilities in 130 countries.
ROLE - Due to clients continued growth and customer demand they are currently recruiting for a qualified, capable and experienced Structural Engineer (Steel Tower Structures/foundations)
Reports to the Senior Structural Engineer (towers) and within the parameters set has the freedom to act within their technical discipline.
This individual will be responsible for researching, designing and developing various steel structures (mainly towers) and foundation designs. This will typically be done using Solid Works / Prokon. The incumbent will aim to reduce costs and manufacturing time for all designs. Visits to manufacturing facilities, tower sites and clients will be required. Management of the external design consultant will also fall within the scope of responsibility.
Design and development of structural steel towers (structural design experience with Prokon preferred)
Design and development of angular lattice tower foundations
Check client technical specifications against existing designs and provide best possible solution
Liaise and manage external design consultant
Liaise with clients design consultants to ensure design certification of existing towers when required
Performs research, design and development in such areas as structural steel towers and civil works
Assist in all facets with regards to the day to day operation of the tower division
Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgement in making adaptations and modifications.
Assignments have clear and specified objectives.
Develops own resources to solve problems and provides imaginative solutions to a variety of problems.
Assumes responsibility for a definable portion of a project.
PERSON SPEC
10 - BSc. in Structural/Civil Engineering or related four (4) year technical degree
10 - 3+ years post-graduation work experience involving the use of Civil Engineering principles and practices
10 - Knowledge of typical Civil processes and Design; Structural experience is necessary as is experience on steel structures
10 - Proficiency in solid modelling software – SolidWorks or AutoCad
10 - Proficiency in structural analysis software – preferably Prokon
10 - Good time management skills
10 - Highly motivated
10 - Strong multi-tasker, who completes assigned tasks with minimal supervision
10 - Must possess good oral/written communication skills, in English as main business language
10 - Able to effectively work on project teams consisting of departmental and/or cross-functional personnel
10 - Able to travel locally and internationally -suitable driving licence required and freedom to travel internationally without restriction
10 – Personality - practical,hands-on, creative, accountable, results-and process-driven,multi-tasker, compliant.
9 - Ideally current holder of suitable work permits/authorisation for Africa
