Our client is a specialist technical product manufacturer, supplying to the Defence, Aerospace, Rail and Automotive sectors. The business has a strong pedigree and reputation and has remained at the forefront of it’s field having continually developed new products to meet ever changing demands.

It is now looking to grow its position in its existing markets and to improve its overall operational capabilities and processes. Consequently, the board are looking to appoint an Operations Director to bring the required professional expertise into the business.

The Role

• Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be directly responsible for all production and process planning and support (HSE, Quality, Continuous Improvement and Engineering) activities targeted to hit OTIF and quality targets.
• Establish production KPIs and accurate production forecasting and reporting.
• Lead by example to drive a culture which will embrace continuous improvement methodologies and a lean manufacturing ethos.
• Establish availability and service level requirements for all product lines to maintain the delivery targets of the product categories.
• Build upon existing expertise and methodologies to transform the performance of the operation to deliver future business growth.
• Optimise the stock profile through effective production planning.
• Underpin goals for the business, be measurable and support improvement activities.
• Strengthen the manufacturing team through individual development and selective recruitment.

The Candidate

• A minimum of five years’ experience gained leading a manufacturing function, in a complex, precision, batch, manufacturing business.
• Strong leadership and influencing skills, a good communicator with a track record of delivering tangible results through effective management, delegation and development of operations staff.
• Knowledge of modern manufacturing management / improvement techniques and ability to be selective in their application.
• Strong systems/planning/project experience.
• Track record of quality improvement and cost management.
