Our client is a well-established business operating in the B2B space. It has a record of profitability and a turnover of £150m supplying a wide range of innovative products. The European subsidiary of a quoted plc, the company is planning significant growth based on synergies created from recent activity and new investments in business development.
The company aims to dominate the UK and European market over the next three to five years. A need has been identified to recruit a strategically sound and tactically proactive CFO to work with the Managing Director and board to realise these plans. Clearly the number 2 role in the company, an individual is required who will deputise for the MD when necessary.
Requiring a “hands-on” person, the ability to combine a strategic outlook with tactical abilities, is desired. The emphasis will be on shaping strategy and realising efficiency gains; streamlining operations and delivering rising profitability in the face of margin pressure. The organisation works in a mature market which relies on constant product innovation to meet market demands. The impact of “Brexit” on margins and markets is just one challenge which will face the incumbent.
The appointed candidate will receive a significant six-figure salary along with executive benefits including car (or allowance), pension and profit related incentives.

Detailed Role Responsibilities
• With the board, help set and lead business strategy cascade it throughout the organisation
• Ensure the highest standards of financial reporting and ensure compliance and best practice
• Help shape and implement long-term plans to maximise sustainable shareholder value
• Develop real-time and relevant reporting and encourage its use throughout the business
• Focus on product profitability and segmentation analysis to better enable business decision making on a day-to-day basis
• Build and maintain high-performance teams to deliver consistently exceptional financial support and services
• Seek out and act upon opportunities for transformational change, improvements and innovation
• Play a lead role on acquisitions and investment opportunities
• Deputise for the MD when required
• Nurture internal and external networks to ensure positive and collaborative relationships supportive of the business

• Chartered accountant (ICEW, ICAS, CIMA, CACA)
• Degree level education
• A background in B2B / Distribution / FMCG businesses will be highly advantageous
• Experience gained as a CFO in significant businesses and familiarity with international business
• Sound knowledge of current best practice in corporate governance, audit and risk management and financial reporting and processes
• Strategic and innovative, adept and experienced in dealing with complexity and multi-stakeholder issues
• Ability to shape effective strategies and lead the detailed process of implementation
• Credible, effective communicator with interpersonal skills to engage with and win over others
